Pay First, Pump Later Recommends RGDA
The
Retail Gasoline Dealers Association of Nova Scotia has contacted the
Minister of Environment and Labour, Mark Parent regarding the growing
issue of gas and dash occurrences within the Industry and the impact of
this activity upon retailers and their employees.
In
December 2007, the Nova Scotia government approved new regulations
related to Violence in the Workplace which come into effect April 2,
2008. R.G.D.A. Executive Director Graham Conrad says “the new
regulations recognize the growing need for improving safety standards
within our workplaces but do not fully respond to the protection
workers need against gas and dash theft.
In
January 2008, the Province of British Columbia introduced new
regulations for their retail gasoline industry called Grant’s Law.
Grant’s Law requires all motorists to pay first and pump later 24 hours
a day.
“We do not believe that implementing
this new regulatory requirement in Nova Scotia will have any
significant negative affects upon the motoring public nor should it
have any impact upon convenience or levels of service” says Graham
Conrad.
In a letter written to Minister Mark Parent
(included in this article) the Association points out the intention to
research public and retailer feedback in order to gauge the attitudes
of those who may be affected by a policy of pay first, pump later.
Retailers throughout Nova Scotia will be asked to reply
to the Association with their views on this issue. The Association
will send an email or fax to every retailer in the province. Those
that do not have fax or email should respond by mail to ensure
everyone’s views are received. To reply to this article contact RGDA,

The responses and feedback received will then be presented for review
at the upcoming Annual General Meeting on May 31, 2008 as part of the
Conference Weekend at Oak Island Resort and Spa May 30 - June 1. |
