Gasoline Retailers React To Government Decision

The all party Government Legislative Review Committee established to review Petroleum Product Pricing in Nova Scotia has reported on its findings and has made recommendations. Based upon the evidence presented, the select committee had two major recommendations.

  1. Functional divorcement: whereby prohibiting major oil companies from participating in the retail industry as well as all other levels in the pipeline. This proposal was rejected by the Provincial Government.

  2. Return to a system of price regulation similar to the model in place in Prince Edward Island. This recommendation meets the needs of the motoring public, persons disabled, seniors, and independent retail gasoline dealers.

On November 3, over sixty independent gasoline retailers met to review and analysis the impact of the recommendations. A report was then prepared and sent to Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, Minister Barry Barnet. Retailers are counting on Government to implement the recommendations. Stay Tuned!
